KICKSTART CLUB-TORBAY

Founded 29th January 1977

For all motorcycles and three- wheelers

The Club was formed in 1977 by seven VMCC members who felt that membership of a local club would be preferable to that of a national club.
The original aim of the club was to encourage the preservation, restoration, and more particularly, the riding of pre-1961 machines and latterly including pre-1982 British and European machines, throughout the year. Associate membership without voting rights for owners of 1961-1975 British built machines was introduced in 1998. In 2001 associate membership was changed to full membership.
In January 2011 the rules were relaxed and full membership was available to anyone owning a two or three-wheeled motorcycle at least 25 years old.
In 2012 an "Associate Membership" was introduced, opening up the Kickstart Club to two and three wheeled motorcycles of any age or origin.

The Club is affiliated to the British Motorcyclists Federation. Affiliated clubs benefit from a special public liability insurance package, and their members enjoy many of the advantages offered to individual BMF members.

Club nights are the second and last Friday of each month, starting at 8.00 pm at the Newton Abbot Rugby Football Club Clubhouse, behind Fairway Furnishings in Kingsteignton Road. A Club run is held on the last Sunday of each month, meeting at 9.30 am for a 10.00 am departure from the staff car park at Newton Abbot railway station. During summer months Wednesday evening runs are organised, usually departing from the same venue at 6:30 pm. Also during the summer a barbeque is held at the Rugby Club, usually in July. Closed to Club events may include hill-climbs, trials, and road trials as well as the Torbay run in July. These are announced by the Chairman at Club nights, together with any other information. Social events such as skittles matches are arranged as required. The Club also attends rallies, both riding and static, organised by other clubs in the South-West. Points are awarded for riding to Club meetings and participating in both Kickstart Club events and runs, rallies & shows held by other organisations. Accumulated points go towards the Rider of the Year award.
There are a small number of books and video/films for loan.
“Kickback”, the Club Newsletter, is issued each month.
